The west-east footbridge over the railway between Moneyfield Avenue and Moneyfield Lane/Kendal Avenue (Network Rail call it "Moneyfield Corner" bridge Grid Ref SU 66214 01996).
Presently this is shown as "No Moter Cycling, No Cycling" although the bridge itself has long approach ramps, not steps, which would be ideal as a cycling route. To make it difficult for cyclists at present there are barriers halfway down the ramps on both sides of the bridge and the ramp is in fact stepped every 1.5m with a small 10-15cm step. There is not even a cycle channel like that on Clarkes footbridge linking Fratton Way and Clakes Road (which was refurbished earlier this year). All in all clearly intended to deter all but the most determined cyclists. Why have it pedestrians only?
The nearest crossing points involve quite a detour either down to Copnor Bridge or up to Burfields Road.
Please improve, thanks, good luck with this initiative, I fear the cycling initial impetus is dissipating and everyone is being encouraged to return to their former ways. Ray Pettitt, PO4 8AD.
